Alabaster by Audrey Cefaly | Scar Prosthetics
Florida Repertory Theatre
Costume Design by Charlene Gross
As the assistant costume designer and wardrobe supervisor for Alabaster, it was my job to make, apply, and remove the scar prosthetics needed for the character June for the run of the show. Charlene created the scar molds and taught me the process of how to make and apply the prosthetics. We used a Pros-aide based mixture and painted them after the mold process. The scars were then finished off with a tattoo transfer paper for application. Once applied to the body, I added additional scar painting to the actors body with a stipple sponge to create continuity between the scarring. Over the course of the production, I made and applied over 800 scar prosthetics.
Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella Horse Heads
Sierra Repertory Theatre
Costume Design by Andrew Burns
These intricate horse heads were created using WonderFlex, a moldable material similar to Worbla. The frame was constructed overtop of a clay outline of the height and width needed for the head shape. Once the outer frame shape was achieved, I went back in to add the detailed face line and attached the large ears. The structures when then connected to a helmet base with an elastic neck strap to keep the head secure on the actors heads while performing.
